Chuck Redd and the festival jazz unit are joined by Vanessa Greenway, Siri Vik and Bill Hulings in an evening that looks at the special connection between American and Parisian jazz through the experiences especially of three American musicans who worked in Paris and France during the middle decades of the 20th century—the soprano saxophonist Sidney Bechet, tenor saxophonist Coleman Hawkins and violinist Eddie South—and through the work of French composers and performers—Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli, Edith Piaf, Charles Trenet, Jaques Brel and more—which have had an ongoing presence on American musical culture today.
