Across several decades, David Bowie’s songs absorb and recombine an unusually wide field of influences — popular music, theatre, poetry, art, fashion — while a succession of stage personae gives those influences different forms and voices. Somewhere in that exchange is an interesting line between responding to the zeitgeist and helping to create it.
We’ll move through familiar songs and some early hidden gems: “God Knows I’m Good,” “Kooks” and “All the Young Dudes”, to “The Man Who Sold the World”, “Life on Mars?, “Space Oddity”, “Young Americans,” “Golden Years,” “Heroes,” “Let’s Dance” and “Modern Love.” Some of our takes will remain close to their iconic Bowie origins; a few will take a different route… taking a cue from Bowie’s distinct genius for responding to the larger world around him in his music and performance. We can’t wait!
