Scotty moved to Eugene from the Big Sky country Montana in 1988 and began playing with The Beets in 1990. He finished his degree in Music Composition from the University of Oregon in 1994 and spent the next decades building his private music teaching practice, developing the music program at the Imagine That Summer Adventures theater camp, performing as musical director and professional wrestler Rumbles “Dogbreath” Hangnail for the Shedd Institute’s Magical Moombah, and riding freight trains. In recent years, he has expanded his Music Compass teaching program into China. He is translating his “Doctor Zollatti’s Guitar Game” music theory curriculum into Mandarin, liaising with students and fellow music educators alike and fostering a cross-cultural, bilingual bridge between countries. He can be found as 思考帝(Sī Kǎo Dì) on WeChat and Rednote where he posts videos of his performances of his favorite Chinese popular music. Scotty passed the baton to Jack for Beets’ keyboards in 2023.
